This policy explains what personal data I collect when you use petessenceshop.com or place an order, why I collect it, who I share it with, and your rights.

Who I am

PetEssence is run by Zak trading as PetEssence, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. I am the data controller for the information described here.

What I collect

  • Order and contact details: name, email, delivery and billing address, phone number if you give one, and what you bought.
  • Payment information: processed by my payment providers. I don't see or store your full card details.
  • Account details: if you create an account, your login and saved preferences.
  • Messages: anything you send me by email or the contact form.
  • Technical and usage data: IP address, device and browser type, and how you use the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

Why I use it, and my lawful basis

  • To process and deliver your order, and handle returns or refunds — performance of a contract.
  • To reply to your messages and provide support — legitimate interests.
  • To send marketing, only if you've opted in — consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To measure and improve the site, and to show relevant ads — consent, given through the cookie banner.
  • To meet legal and tax obligations — legal obligation.

Who I share it with

I only share what's necessary, with:

  • Shopify — my store platform, which hosts the site, processes payments, and provides analytics.
  • Suppliers and fulfilment partners — to pack and post your order. Some of my products are shipped directly by suppliers, including sellers on AliExpress. To fulfil your order, your name and delivery address are shared with the relevant supplier. This means your data may be transferred outside the UK, including to suppliers in China (see "International transfers" below).
  • Payment providers — Shop Pay, PayPal, Klarna, and the card networks, to take payment.
  • Judge.me — to collect and display product reviews, if you choose to leave one.
  • Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and TikTok — advertising and analytics pixels that help me understand site usage and show relevant ads. These only operate if you accept cookies.
  • Shopify Network Intelligence — Shopify uses store data, in aggregate with other merchants' data, to improve products, fraud prevention, and ad targeting. No other merchant can see your individual data.

I never sell your personal data.

International transfers

Some of the parties above are outside the UK. Where your data is transferred internationally — including to suppliers in China who fulfil orders — I rely on the safeguards provided by those parties, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision where one applies. For direct-fulfilment orders, the transfer is necessary to perform your contract — to get your order to you.

Cookies

The site uses cookies. Essential cookies keep the site working and can't be switched off. Analytics and advertising cookies (including Meta and TikTok) only run if you accept them via the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings on the site.

How long I keep it

I keep order records for as long as needed to fulfil the order and meet legal and tax requirements (generally six years for tax). Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe. Other data is kept only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how it's used, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email petessenceshopuk@gmail.com.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.

Changes

I may update this policy from time to time. The version here is the current one.
