Hi, I'm Zak.

I run PetEssence from Manchester, in the UK. It's just me — one person, one shop, one inbox. Every email you send comes to me directly, and I answer them all myself.

I started PetEssence because I thought most pet shops didn't really care. They marked things up, packed their sites with fake reviews, and treated pet owners like a market rather than people. I wanted somewhere different — a small shop where the products are chosen carefully, the prices are fair, and there's an actual human on the other end.

Silva is my three-year-old tabby — grey, white, and black, and completely convinced he runs the flat. Brownie is the tortoiseshell, still small and already twice the trouble. And Hawa is my cockatiel, who thinks the whole place belongs to her and complains loudly when it doesn't. Between the three of them I've learned a lot about which pet products actually hold up. Half the reason PetEssence exists is that looking after them made me realise how much pet gear is either wildly overpriced or badly made. I wanted better options, and I figured other people did too.

Carefully chosen products. I curate everything that is stocked — no items with obvious quality problems. If I wouldn't get it for mine, it doesn't make it here.
